The saying goes “never judge a book by its cover” but let’s be honest, most of us are guilty of doing this. I consider the cover of a book an important part of it, maybe not as much as the content, but it’s the first thing I notice and first impressions are important (right?) – basically if a book is pretty, I’m more likely to pick it up.
I’ve put together a Top 5 Favourite YA Book Covers List with a couple of covers that really stand out to me. This is by no means all of the books – some 2017 releases are “oh my” – but they are definitely up there.
Caraval by Stephanie Garber
This book was released earlier this year (January 2017) and has two different covers: UK and US editions. I personally (as per usual) prefer the US edition. I think the colours are absolutely beautiful and that calligraphy… can we take a moment please?
King’s Cage by Victoria Aveyard
The Red Queen series exploded in 2015 with the release of the first book and it’s amazing cover – if you haven’t heard of this series, what rock are you living under? Whether you’re a fan of the actual series or not, it’s impossible to deny that the covers are some of the most beautiful out there. They’re a perfect example of less being more!
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst
This is another relatively new release (November 2016) and, although I haven’t got to it yet, I’ve heard nothing but praise about it’s unique-ness and diversity. But we’re hear to talk about covers and Of Fire and Stars has a beautiful one!
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
This book got a lot of hype after Marissa Meyer’s success following her Lunar Chronicles series. When I first saw the US black-red cover I loved it but then I saw the UK cover… and I was confused which to love more. Then, as if that wasn’t enough cover-beautifulness, Owlcrate came out with an exclusive edition and I died. This was a limited edition/Owlcrate exclusive and I was fortunate enough to be gifted it for Christmas – it’s just as beautiful in person as it is in pictures!
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
Last, but by no means least, is one of my favourite books of 2016 – Three Dark Crowns. Aside from this book being simply amazing, it’s US cover is beautiful! Again, it’s simplistic like the Red Queen series, but I couldn’t have designed a book cover more fitting to this book myself – it’s simply perfect.
