The Beauty and the Beast Book Tag

In celebration of the new live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast releasing in theatres tomorrow (17th of March 2017), I thought there was nothing more fitting than to do “The Beauty and the Best Book Tag”.

“Tale As Old As Time” – A popular theme, trope or setting you will never get bored of reading.

There are a lot of tropes that repeate themselves contiously in young-adult fantasy books but I think I will never get tired of the “forbidden” relationships, between two characters from opposite backgrounds and upbringinings that end up falling in love. I always find myself rooting for them to be together. An example is Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard – I’m definitely team cal, or Ruined by Amy Tintera.

Belle – A book you bought for it’s beautiful cover that’s just as beautiful inside.

The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye comes to mind when I read this question. I didn’t necessarily solely pick it up for its cover, but it is absolutely stunning.

If you haven’t picked this book up yet, I 100% recommend you do so – that ending! Also, its sequel The Crown’s Fate is being published May 16th 2017, so it’s the best time to pick it up!

Beast – A book you didn’t expect much from but that pleasantly surprised you.

I would have to go with The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Rioridan.

Don’t get me wrong, I know Rick Riordan’s books are well-loved in the book community, I just personally wasn’t expecting much from this novel because it was my first Rick Riordan novel and it’s a middle-grade book (which I don’t tend to pick up). However, although it wasn’t amazing, I was pleasantly surprised by it!

Gaston – A book everyone loves that you don’t.

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson. I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a huge fan of contemporary novels, but this book received a lot of praise when it was released Summer 2016.

Unfortunately, I didn’t seem to enjoy it as much as others. It was probably one of the longest contemporary books I’ve seen, but reading 500 pages of one girls summer was (to me) excessive – I got quite bored and it dragged out a little too much.

Lefou – A loyal sidekick you can’t help but love more than their counterpart.

I would have to go with Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series. She’s one of my favourite female characters of all time, from book 1 to movie 1 – I’ve absolutely loved her! She was definitely a character I found myself relating to when I was younger and I mean, come on, who would Harry be without her?

Mrs. Potts, Chip, Lumier & Cogsworth – A book that helped you through a difficult time or that taught you something valuable.

For this question, I have to go for Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys.

This was my first historical fiction book and it made me fall in-love with the genre – don’t hesistate to pick this one up, trust me, you will not regret it.

I learnt a lot from this book, not only history-related but in appreciating what we have now and the lives we lead.

“Something There” – A book or series that you weren’t into at first but picked up towards the end.

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard. I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Red Queen – it actually got me into reading YA books – but Glass Sword didn’t start off on the best note. However, I was determined to power through it and I’m glad I did. That ending…

I can’t wait to pick up the next book in this series, King’s Cage (released last month, February 7th 2017) and see where the story goes!

“Be Our Guest” – A fictional character you’d love to have over for dinner.

Dumbledore, from the Harry Potter series – I need to ask him where my acceptance letter form Hogwarts went!
